Fun Friday Reads: The Professional

Entrepreneur Joey Michaels is a professional. He’s started successful businesses in many different arenas. He’s been a professional water fighter, where people hire him to attack the victim of their choice. He’s also been a professional snowball fighter, food fighter, and of course, pillow fighter. In each book in the Fun 4 Hire series, Joey gets himself into some pretty hilarious circumstances as he tries to win, earn, or gain something. Ultimately, he learns something amazing about God, himself, and others.

The Water Fight Professional finds Joey working his water fighting booth in the park where people hire him to attack their friends and family with water balloons or squirt guns. He hasn’t made much money, but when his good friend, Chance, bets that he can make more money mowing lawns, Joey takes the challenge. The winner gets an out-of-this-world triple dip ice cream cone. Awesome!! But then Chance ups the ante. (Gulp!) The loser has to … has to … I can’t even say it. But let’s just say that Joey would rather lick a slug.

Thus begins Joey’s adventures. I really enjoyed reading about Joey and his various businesses. Along the way, he learns that hard work pays, but even more than that, he learns to look out for others and that sometimes doing the right thing means making major sacrifices. Perfect for upper elementary/middle schoolers (or the adults in their lives who just want a good laugh), Angela Ruth Strong has a fun writing style that will pull in even the most reluctant readers. She recently beat cancer, and has a fantastic blog about her journey, her writing, and is the author of many hilarious books for adults as well.

The Water Fight Professional is free for Nook, so check it out there for your free copy. Otherwise, Amazon has them in ebooks and paperbacks.
