10 Best Devotionals for Teens

I have a tried-and-true spiritual routine that ensures my heart is in the right place before I face the world each morning. I wake when my husband’s alarm shrills, stumble to the kitchen and grab a cup of coffee, then snuggle with my fat, orange cat in my comfy recliner. I spend about twenty minutes reading a devotion, praying, and listening for God’s guidance.

This quiet time sets the tone for my day. If I miss it, I struggle to get into a positive groove and usually end up harried and anxious before carving out those twenty minutes to spend time with my Holy Father later in the day.

Each year about this time I start searching for a devotional book to begin reading January 1. I like starting with a fresh book that I select based on where my heart leads me. This year, I read Grace Fox’s Finding Hope in Crisis: Devotions to Calm the Chaos—so perfect for 2022—a year that can’t seem to surrender its grip on COVID and political divisiveness. I highly recommend all of Grace’s devotionals. In 2023, I plan to read Parenting Adult Children: A 52-week Devotional by Jamie Cloyd.

Devotional books are not only for adults; teens can reap the rewards of building a relationship with God by spending a few minutes a day with Him. When my kids were teens, I knew when they’d risen early to read a devotion and pray. They were more grounded and calmer.

  • Great suggestions! For younger kids (or in our case, a mix of young and old), we highly recommend Lou Giglio’s creation-focused devotionals, “Wonder of Creation,” “How Great is Our God,” and “Indescribable.” These devotionals spurred so many amazing conversations with our kids.
