Hey, it’s nice to meet you! Thanks for visiting the Storyteller Squad blog. We hope you are encouraged with your own writing and discover more great books to read.
I love to read across multiple genres. What’s important is an engaging story that draws me into a different place and keeps me racing through the pages to find out how it ends.
When I was a kid, I loved the Little House on the Prairie series and the Nancy Drew mysteries. Also Elizabeth George Speare’s The Witch of Blackbird Pond was and still is a favorite of mine. I knew I wanted to write novels way back in the fifth grade. However, life happens, and if you don’t make time to pursue your dreams, they just get pushed back.
I studied writing in college and earned my B.A. in English with a writing emphasis and print journalism. After college, I worked in public relations and marketing, then journalism.
Over the years, I’ve lost track of the number of feature and news articles I’ve written for area newspapers. I’ve published a few essays and articles in magazines and continue to do that.
Although I kept my toe in the water, so to speak, my primary goal became homeschooling my five children, so writing and interviewing started getting squeezed into blocks of time throughout the day. I burned out.
I wanted to return to my childhood dream: fiction writing. Because I met Jesus while I was assistant editor of one of those newspapers, I desire to glorify Him through my writing. I resigned from my newspaper work and concentrated on learning the craft of fiction writing.
I’m currently working on my second contemporary YA novel which is about a girl finding her place in the world while proving to a popular girl that how things look on the surface isn’t always the truth. The first about bullying remains in a file for now.
When I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy digging into God’s Word, walking, hiking, and visiting historical sites with my family. I live in Wisconsin with my husband, two creative teen daughters, three cats, and a chocolate Labrador. (Below are Bandit, who likes to help me write, and Mittens, who likes to keep me company at lunch.) My three adult sons live nearby pursuing their dreams.
