Writing Prompts

We jumped into our car only to discover it wasn’t moving. The battery was dead.

A few cars remained in the parking lot, so we waited for someone to return to their car and hoped they would have a battery cable.

Have you ever needed a jumpstart?

As a writer, I often need a nudge. When I’m stuck and staring at a blank page, I need something to unlock ideas and rev up inspiration. I’m excited to share a new series of writing prompts by Victoria Kimble. Her books Writing Prompts for Humans are packed with ideas that will jumpstart creativity.

Kimble, a Storytellersquad member and author of middle grade and teen books, shares her passion for writing and helping other writers:

As a writer have you always used writing prompts?

Yes! My earliest memory of a writing prompt was in third grade, and I have loved them ever since. I think a lot of writers are really drawn to story ideas, and to this day I can’t resist a good prompt.

How have writing prompts helped or changed your writing?

They help the most when I’m in a funk. Writing prompts are like sparks that light the kindling that all writers have. Sometimes when things have grown stale or cold, it helps to explore a new idea, even if that idea only results in a paragraph.

You offer unique prompts for different writers. Explain the different angles of your Writing Prompts for Humans.

Writers are such unique people. We each have our own likes, dislikes, and preferred genres. I hope to create books that inspire many different writers, even writers who write about different subjects than I do.

How would you encourage a writer who feels uninspired?

They should buy one of my prompt books. 🙂 Or simply take a day off by writing something different than what they’re working on. Writing begets writing. When my oldest daughter was in elementary school, she once said, “It’s so hard to start writing, but once I start my mind just explodes with ideas.” I had never felt so seen as a writer. Sometimes all we need is to just start any story, and that gets the creative juices flowing. You never know where a prompt will take you.

Thank you! Victoria, and happy writing everyone!
