The 2023 TBR Pile

Welcome to 2023!!

Time for new goals. Like new reading goals. Have you made reading goals in the past, and/or are you making them this year?

I didn’t make it to my goal in 2022. I had aimed to read 75 books. I made it to 65. This year, I made the same 75 book goal, and I’m hoping to make it there by December.

Here are a few of the books on my TBR list that I hear are fantastic, and I can’t wait to read for myself.

Abbie’s Woods: Defending the Nest, by Susan Thogerson Maas:

I loved Susan’s first book, Picture Imperfect. So when I saw that Susan had a new book out, I snatched it right up. Abbie has a special place in the woods where she can escape her chaotic home. But when her peace is threatened by two boys who care nothing for the beauty of the forest, she sets about trying to protect the people and places she loves the most.

The Mysterious Benedict Society, by Trenton Lee Stewart:

This one sounds right up my alley. Kids facing challenges and going on missions? Oh, yeah! I can’t wait to dive into this one.

The Mistmantle Chronicles, by M. I. McAllister:

I love animal protagonist fiction, so this grabbed my attention right away. I just finished Redwall, so I’m in the zone for a woodland creature adventure, and this looks amazing as Urchin, an orphaned squirrel sets off to discover his powerful destiny and change the course of his island home forever.

So those are three books on my TBR pile. What are some books you’re looking forward to this next year?

Happy reading!

  • The second book on my middle grade TBR is the first Wing of Fire. It’s such a popular series that I’m on the library waiting list. The first book which I’ve already read was Maniac McGee by Newberry award winning-author Jerry Spinelli. His story-telling is amazing with incredible characters, but it didn’t yank my heart like I thought it would.

  • I love setting reading goals! This is my third year making a 52 book goal (I figure I can do at least one book a week!). However, I’ve surprised myself and I’m already through 8 books in 2023. I finally embraced audiobooks, so maybe I will break my goal this year?! Happy reading to all!

    • Yes! Audiobooks have definitely saved my reading goals. Love them. And nice work. Keep reading (or listening :))
