What happens when a nice, Christian girl feels called by God to leave her small-town Southern family and try to make it big in Hollywood? Find out in Annmarie M. Roberts’s debut novel, Hollywood Is Not Home.
Like all beautiful movie stars, Maggie Malone seems to have it all. The movie career, beautiful house, and a loving, supportive family. But with all that fame comes one thing Maggie despises—the paparazzi.
Feeling at the end of her rope, she mysteriously meets a woman only known as, “Ms. A,” who offers her a deal. She would become part of a secret project in exchange for a generous donation. The hook? The project includes Maggie disappearing for a short while to an unknown location, where she can’t tell anybody about the project, including her own family. And…when the time is over, she must leave the town and never return.
Maggie accepts, and finds herself in a small town called Home. As she rediscovers who she really is, Maggie meets a kind family and the perfect guy. When the time comes for Maggie to head back to Hollywood, she must make the ultimate sacrifice, but will she be happy again?
While this novel is considered women’s fiction, I would definitely recommend it for those young adult readers who love a feel-good Christian romance. It’s clean, no foul language, and it presents a difficult choice our young adults face—the world vs. our morals.
