Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus

I haven’t been able to read fiction lately. I’ve been too troubled over our nation to stick with a new book for long. My name landed in the Friday book slot, and I decided to highlight my all-time favorite book which happens to be nonfiction. But it also happens to be a GREAT story.

Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus is a true story about a young man who came to faith in Christ through logic. It’s not a new phenomenon, as lots of Christians have come to their faith by comparing the Biblical account to historical data. What makes this story unique is that it was written by a former Muslim who successfully conveys his love and deep respect for his culture of origin throughout his account.

Nabeel Qureshi loved his family. They were the center of his world. He was raised to be an upright man who cared for others. He believed that one of the best ways to care for others was to spread his faith in Islam so that more people could know his religion. He had been taught anti-Christian arguments his entire life—things like how the gospel was twisted over time and how Jesus never claimed to be God. His parents taught him the ins and outs of logical arguments defending the claims of his faith, and he excelled in all of his studies.

Nabeel made it a habit to challenge Christians on the claims of the New Testament, and he was so good at it that he he succeeded in lodging doubts… until he met his match in a friend on his college debate team. His friend responded with equally challenging arguments, and they became best friends who bantered and argued about their beliefs as easily as they made fun of their crazy professors. They argued until Nabeel was eyeballs deep in the Bible, the Koran, and all the books he could find about them. Through his studies, he not only found the Biblical claims to be irrefutable, but he stumbled upon information he was never taught about his own religion.

Qureshi gave us a glimpse into the agony of leaving everything in order to follow Christ, how God even sent him supernatural experiences as he walked the harrowing path of disappointing and shaming his family. The book includes all of the arguments Nabeel wrestled with, as well as a stunning portrait of his culture painted in a beautiful light.

His story will be told over and over again into eternity. It’s not fiction, but it’s a must-read for every Christian.

They broaden our limited worldview and engage the unfamiliar depths of God’s riches scattered throughout every linguistic and geographical existence.
