Fun Reads Friday: Orlo The Created

I’ve never considered myself one who enjoys reading fantasy or speculative fiction, but I had a hard time putting down this Selah Award finalist. Lauren H. Brandenburg gives the reader a glimpse into life under the law versus a life of freedom in Christ through creating two worlds, housed deep beneath the earth’s surface.

Amazon.com: Orlo: The Created (The Books of the Gardener - Orlo ...

Young Orlo the deliverer worked in his job in the “Slub” because he had been told that was his gifting. But when he begins to show talent in another area, he finds himself being led through a series of events that have him traveling to the other world, The Works. His job? To retrieve a secret package. What he discovers there opens his eyes to a whole new world—a world of lies and deception, truth and freedom. Orlo must choose between continuing to live his comfortable life, the way of a lie, or uproot everything for a life of freedom.

This book takes us on an exciting journey where Orlo encounters many interesting people, all with secrets of their own. It is a great reminder that things aren’t always as they seem. It is perfect for middle graders but parents will have a hard time putting this one down too!

If you’ve read any other books by Lauren H. Brandenburg, I’d love to read your suggestions!
