My dream is to see my novel at the bookstore. Why? Because, I love reading stories and weaving them. For me, it’s the rush of going on an adventure. Being published means I get to add my drop in the bucket to literature and influence. What’s your reason?
One of my earliest memories is of five-year-old me cuddled up to my aunt while she read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It inspired me to dream of new worlds. Though my love for reading and writing dwindled through grade school. It picked up again when I got my hands on Lord of the Rings.
How does this relate to becoming a published author? Bear with me. It’s coming. We all start as readers and daydreamers conjuring up stories. At some point, I started writing these stories down. And they stunk.
But, that’s ok. We’ve got to start somewhere. Now, I’ve ghostwritten a few novels and I’ve written two novels of my own. I’m editing them and learning as I go. Putting myself out there is tough because rejection stinks.
There is one thing that is certain. I will not achieve my dream of being published unless I try. I won’t keep trying unless I keep my reasons for wanting to be published in mind. Now, I have a couple of requests for proposals and for my full manuscripts! I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m not where I was a year ago.
What’s your reason for wanting to be published? What stage are you in your dream?
Love that quote by Longfellow. It’s so true. Rejection is hard but it’s the only way we’ll ever get an acceptance. Sounds like you’re coming along great.
Thank you! The quote spoke to me. I’m still waiting for my door to open. 😉
