Book Review: The Hurricane Keeper, by Victoria Kimble

“Hurricane Goliath shows no sign of slowing down. Since making landfall on September third, fifty years ago, the historic hurricane–”

Ashlyn has been watching the weather channel, searching for news of Hurricane Goliath, since her father went missing in the storm ten years ago. Everyone in her family seems to have given up any hope of ever seeing him again. Ashlyn can’t let go of the feeling that he’s still alive. But how could he be?

Then she hears about a group of conspiracy theorists who believe the government is hiding a huge secret: that people are being imprisoned inside the Hurricane. Could Ashlyn’s dad be one of them?

The Hurricane Keeper is a tale of mystery, sci-fi, suspense, and romance all rolled into one. There are so many moments where I could not stop reading because I wanted to see what Ashlyn would do with new information she gained. Her relationships with her family were awesome and made me want to join in on the fun birthday traditions. Her relationship with her boyfriend was both sweet and infuriating. And the new guy? Well, he’s either trouble, or the key to finding out what happened to her dad.

All in all, I absolutely loved The Hurricane Keeper. Victoria has an easy writing style that draws you into the story and keeps you going all the way to the end. The voice of Ashlyn is engaging, and you really get to know her as you discover element of the mystery, take risks, and fall in and out of hope and love. This is a fantastic book that is perfect for you and the teen in your life. I highly recommend the first book in this trilogy. And you’ll definitely be on the lookout for book two. We get left on a pretty big cliffhanger, so stay tuned!
