A Sparkly, New Today

It’s Monday. You know the day. The one where you’re sleep deprived and just want it to be Friday again? Yes, that Monday. But today is not just a day to drag through on your way to the weekend. It’s also a day of promise. How many other days get to start the week? None. Mondays have that mission. And we salute them.

What have you promised yourself lately? Perhaps you were going to start writing that book. Or apply for that dream job. Or get that charity off and running. What is it that you’ve always wanted to do, but where scared to take on? Perhaps this bright and brilliant Monday is the day to take the leap.

I’ve been working on my middle grade super hero squirrel stories for a long time. And every Monday I look at my to-do list and say, “Today is the day.” But you know what? I’ve let the todays slip by. That manuscript is still on my hard drive. It isn’t roaming the world, heading to places of destiny in agent and editor’s email boxes.

But that was last Monday.

This Monday will be different because I am not promised tomorrow, so I better darn tootin’ get my act together today so that many, many perfectly good tomorrows don’t pass me by with nothing to show for it. I’ve set the goal. Now it’s time to act.

Who’s with me? Do you have a goal that has seen too many Mondays come and go? What can you do today that will push that goal forward?

Personally, I am going to finish that manuscript this month and start sending it out. Am I scared? Oh, yeah. Am I anxious? A bit. Will I let that stop me? NO. Though I might eat a whole box of cake mix before I push send. No matter. I shall conquer my goal. And you can too.

We are officially in the fourth quarter of the year. Scary. I know. So pick one thing to do today that will push that goal forward, and leave it in the comments. Let’s push each other past Monday’s doldrums and unrealized dreams to a sparkly, new tomorrow full of check marks and cheers of, “Oh, yeah. I did it.”

Monday: Here we come.
